A Book in the Good Fight Series

Bryce Morton needs a change of scenery. Since his partner's death a year ago, he's become withdrawn and quiet, so his friends, Jerry Lincoln and Akecheta (John) Black Raven, convince him to go camping with them on a Sioux reservation. Though he's not immediately sure he's done the right thing, Bryce becomes more interested when he meets Paytah, the man who owns the reservation's trading post.

Paytah Stillwater's life is filled with hurt, and sometimes the only thing he has left is pride. After being abused as a child and disbelieved when he spoke up, he has withdrawn into himself-but he can never truly put his past behind him, because the source of his pain still lives on the reservation. Paytah is proud of his heritage and careful with his heart, but when Bryce commits a selfless act of kindness for one of the reservation's children, the walls around Paytah's heart begin to melt.

Bryce and Paytah each fight the pain within them. When Paytah's abuser sets his sights on one of the reservation youngsters, Bryce and Paytah must set their individual fights aside. Finding a way to stop the abuser unites them to fight their way forward-together.

The Fight Within (Audible Audio Edition) Andrew Grey Andrew McFerrin Dreamspinner Press LLC Books

I love Andrew Grey's books.... It amazes me that he can handle such a deep story, abuse and rape, with such a light hand. It really is a gentle love story between Paytah and Bryce, but underneath is the true story of the fight of the Native Americans. Both Bryce and Paytah are lonely and damaged, one due to the loss of a lover, one due to childhood abuse. They are so ready for each other, but both scared to reach out. When they do, it is sweet and gentle and healing for both of them. The story of the Native American tribe that runs through this book and the first in the series, The Good Fight, really got to me. I knew the white people had treated the Native Americans badly, but didn't realize it was still as bad as it is. Both from this book and a visit to New Mexico and a drive through tribal lands, I had my eyes opened. Not sure what if anything I can do, but Andrew has brought it to light.

Well written, well developed characters, fun in parts, dark and sad in others. A fantastic book!

The Fight Within (Audible Audio Edition) Andrew Grey Andrew McFerrin Dreamspinner Press LLC Books Reviews

This the only book I have read and gave a 5 star rating. This story is very personal to me. It took awhile for me to gain the courage to read it. I am so glad that I did.
It is a beautiful romance. I wept with the pain of Bryce and Paytah. I laughed with them. At the very end I cried with happiness for them.
This book will make you think. It will make you hold your children close. It will make you appreciate those you love a little more.
A genuine love story. You will become a part of the story. That I think is what makes a great story, when you are no longer the reader but a participant in the story.
I have been a fan of Andrew Grey since I read the first book in this series. And even though I read them in the incorrect order (I finished The Fight for Identity before this one) I STILL loved it! I highly recommend this series!
Andrew Grey has captured me as a committed reader. Loved this book. The true and genuine situations are treated so delicately.
The background issues make it a couldn't put down read. This series of books dealing with Native American characters brings very different subject matter to this type of book. Gripping read.
I have read many books in this genre, but few have had as engaging a story as The Fight Within. Mr Grey's characters were well-drawn, and the plot was believable and a good read. Subjects of loss and abuse were dealt with compassionately. The relationship between Bryce and Paytah was fun to watch develop. Their story is one that I would recommend for many reasons, but mostly that it was well-written and well-edited.
Bryce and Paytah's story. Bryce suffered a terrible loss and Paytah has a deep secret that changed him. Bryce accepts to go back to the reservation with his friends. He meets Paytah and it is not a so pleasant encounter. When they meet again a friendship starts and they feel free enough to confess many things. Together with their friends and families they begin to heal. It is a great story that will make you laugh, cry and understand that together people can make a difference.
I realized shopping on books, Andrew Grey has a big reputation for great male stories/novels... So I decided to give him a shot and bought "The Fight Within". When I first started reading I stopped at the first few pages only because I thought the story was too mature for me, (me being just 20). I was thinking this book was for an older audience but after getting into the characters and reading more I loved it. The connection and character development was spot on. I was so happy to continue reading and the ending was so perfect! I was very happy with this book. If your a young reader wanting to try something a little bit different I would suggest this.
Thanks to my and the abundance of M/M novels (many of which are rather affordable), I spend quite a bit of time reading. While I've read many "good" books, Grey is -- by far -- one of the best authors out there when it comes to gay fiction. His books consistently set the bar higher. Well written. Characters you can relate to. Plots that make sense. And the sex, when present, does nothing to detract from the story.

The Fight Within is a sequel to The Good Fight -- a book I read months ago. While this book could be read as a stand alone, I highly encourage readers to purchase the first. The Fight Within will make much more sense both in terms of story and in terms of understanding the characters. Warning It's an emotionally charged story that will have you pausing to wipe your eyes multiple times.

I can only hope Grey continues to write this series, as I'm eager to read more about Bryce and Paytah as well as the reservation in general.
